The Ministry for Digital Development of the State Administration, Information Technologies and Mass Media for the Tatarstan Republic reported on the15th of May that the database with personal data of residents of theRepublic, which was collected to issue digital passes, had been destroyed. (https://digital.tatarstan.ru/rus/index.htm/news/1749226.htm).
At the same time, the digital pass system itself ceasedworking in Tatarstan on the 12th of May. During the service'soperation, more than 1.7 million of Tatarstan citizens had registered under it andalmost 14 million exit permits had been issued.
The destruction took place in the presence of aspecial Commission, which included a representative of the Ministry for DigitalDevelopment of the State Administration, Information Technologies and MassMedia for the Tatarstan Republic, AK Bars Bank, and a representative of theFederal security service for the Republic of Tatarstan. Not only the database, butalso 80 backups were destroyed.
It is hoped that the other regions of the RussianFederation, where digital passes were introduced, will follow the example ofthe Republic of Tatarstan and destroy their databases. In general, the Republicof Tatarstan, unlike most subjects of the Russian Federation, shows a proactiveapproach to getting out of "self-isolation". Among other things, since the beginning of May (that is, before the official release of the self-isolationon the territory of Russia), the Republic began to gradually limitself-isolation measures.
